White House Gone Green

March 26, 2010

KOMU’s asking you to dye your eggs green this Easter. With the holiday coming up, there are multiple ways we can protect our environment… and you don’t have to be the President to do so…

President Barack Obama is turning his holiday into an eco-friendly event. The White House will host its annual Easter Egg Roll on April 5. The event will feature activities geared towards encouraging children to lead healthy and active lives. It’s part of Michelle Obama’s, “Let’s Move!” campaign. But more importantly, the popular, Easter egg roll will be “green!”

This year’s eco-eggs are environmentally-friendly wooden eggs made in the U.S. They come from FSC-certified hardwood that feature vegetable oil, based inks and a water-based coating.

So what does that mean?

The eggs are made from paperboard and contain absolutely no wood fibers from any endangered forests. The eggs are also recyclable!

They come in a variety of colors, like purple, pink, green and yellow, and each egg bares the stamped signature of both President Obama and First Lady Michelle.

The National Park Foundation produced the eggs and is giving them as souvenirs to all children under 12 who attend the roll.

But, if you can’t make it to the White House this season, you can still purchase the eggs online through the National Park Foundation’s website.

1 Egg= $7.50

Box Set (4 Eggs)= $26.50
